Family Membership

Croydon Children’s University has launched Family Membership

Croydon Children’s University (CU) is excited to be able to track and reward voluntary learning, undertaken out of normal school time by children and young people who live in the local area and are either educated at home by parents/carers or who attend a school that is not currently in membership.

The key objectives of Croydon Children’s University are to:

  • raise aspirations and achievement
  • increase children's motivation to learn
  • promote children’s health and wellbeing
  • recognise personalised learning beyond the classroom
  • support transition and community engagement

Each hour of learning that takes place at validated Learning Destinations (approved activity providers) out of ‘normal school time’ earns home-educated children and young people one credit.

These credits are tracked and when totals reach Bronze (30 credits), Silver (65 credits) and Gold (100 credits) levels, the children and young people will receive award certificates and badges just like their school-educated friends.  There are 30 awards to work towards, right up to 1000 hours, so each and every hour of their own time that is given up by the children and young people is valued and will contribute towards their awards.

Croydon CU Family Membership

This membership is open to home-educated children living in the London Borough of Croydon and children who attend a school in Croydon which is not currently a subscribing school.

It is simple!  Like all children and young people in Croydon, to collect CU credits at Learning Destinations, each child will need a Passport to Learning. Our annual membership fee covers the cost of administering the scheme, creating their award certificates and badges, generating their personalised learning profiles (which accompany the awards) and also their attendance at a Gold Award ceremony when they reach 100 credits (these happen twice a year).

Each child receives a Passport to Learning and finds out about all our learning destinations. Each family receives regular newsletters by email.

· Passport to Learning - to log hours of participation at Learning Destinations across the country
