These activities can be before school, at lunch time, after school, at weekends and in school holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We do this by providing limitless learning beyond the classroom &#8211; creating exciting opportunities for every child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We do this so that<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>all children are inspired to learn beyond the classroom<\/li><li>we create wider communities of learning<\/li><li>we remove barriers to learning for all children<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We currently have over 1100 young people participating in Children&#8217;s University activities and the membership steadily increases each year. They are experiencing new and exciting opportunities by taking part in a varied menu of activities, meeting new friends, gaining self-confidence and improving self-esteem, all whilst working towards special achievement certificates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The benefits to young people being part of Children&#8217;s University are that they:-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>have the opportunity to be part of a local  scheme supported by The Hive and The Children&#8217;s University Trust<\/li><li>receive formal recognition of their commitment and involvement in extra-curricular activities, with special achievement certificates awarded<\/li><li>have increased confidence and self-esteem as they take part in more varied activities<\/li><li>have an improvement in their health and well being<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each activity is tagged with up to four of the following 16 categories<br>of learning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Arts, culture and music<br>\u2022 Careers and enterprise<br>\u2022 Citizenship<br>\u2022 Family learning<br>\u2022 History and heritage<br>\u2022 Languages<br>\u2022 Literacy<br>\u2022 Mental health and well-being<br>\u2022 Nature and the environment<br>\u2022 Online<br>\u2022 Outdoor learning<br>\u2022 Practical life skills<br>\u2022 Science, technology, engineering and maths<br>\u2022 Social and community action<br>\u2022 Sports and physical<br>\u2022 Uniformed groups<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>These categories were chosen and defined after extensive consultation with the Children\u2019s University network and schools. They cover a broad selection of types of activity, both reflecting the content of the curriculum while also including types of activities available beyond school. At Children\u2019s University we use the term \u2018thematically agnostic\u2019 to describe our unique approach \u2013 i.e. we are not simply arts, or sports, or linked to one category or subject \u2013 we encompass all learning beyond the classroom.
